William Denton Trumpet, Assistant Principall
Bill Denton is beginning his first season as 2nd Trumpet and Assistant Principal Trumpet with the Alabama Symphony. Prior to his arrival in Birmingham, Bill was Principal Trumpet with the Hilton Head Symphony and Savannah Orchestra. Originally from Wichita Kansas, William holds a Bachelors degree from Wichita State University and a Masters degree from Arizona State University in Tempe where he studied with trumpet soloist David Hickman. In 2006 he was awarded a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree with a Minor in Music Composition from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He served in the U.S. Army for eight years performing with the "Army Field Band" and he still serves in the 246th Army National Guard Band in Columbia South Carolina. He has performed with the Atlanta, Charleston, and Augusta Symphonies as well as the Virginia Symphony, Virginia Beach Pops, Atlanta Pops, Virginia Opera, Wichita Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, and the Roanoke Symphony. As an educator, William was a band director for five years, and has taught as an adjunct faculty member with Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, and the University of South Carolina.
