Rudi Heinrich
Bassoon, Assistant Principal


Rudi Heinrich is currently Second/Assistant Principal Bassoon with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and Principal Bassoon with the Des Moines Metro Opera Orchestra.

Rudi is originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he began playing music in the public schools' elementary school music program. After earning his High School Diploma from the Interlochen Arts Academy, Rudi returned to Ann Arbor to study bassoon with Richard Beene at the University of Michigan. Rudi then attended the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music for his Master's degree, where he studied with William Winstead.

Rudi served as Second Bassoon of the Louisiana Philharmonic from 2002-2004, and as Principal Bassoon of the Toledo Symphony in the 2006-07 season. Other professional engagements have included the Indianapolis Symphony, Louisville Orchestra, Cincinnati Pops, and New World Symphony. In past summers, Rudi has attended the Spoleto Festival, National Repertory Orchestra, and Sarasota Music Festival.

Rudi is married to Meaghan Heinrich and has two cats: Professor Longhair and Coach Lloyd Carr. When he is not playing the bassoon he can be found rooting for his beloved Wolverines or cycling. Rudi is also very proud of his volunteer work with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
