Our 2011-2012 Composer-in-Residence Edgar Meyer brings his phenomenal talent to the Masterworks stage. His Bass Concerto No. 3 is a new work, co-commissioned by the ASO, that will display his virtuosity on this underrated instrument. The night will also feature Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5, a complex and brilliant work written at the height of Stalinist paranoia. With his ultimately life-affirming and optimistic composition, Shostakovich was able to appease the people and the Party both — and break new ground in his formidable career.
Concert Comments begin at 7 p.m. in the Reynolds-Kirschbaum Theater, next to the Jemison Concert Hall.
Concert Comments are hosted by the concert's conductor, the ASO Education Director or other eminent guests and music critics before evening Masterworks performances. Whether you are a casual classical music listener or a connoisseur, Concert Comments will give you a greater appreciation for the works being performed. Join us for this free event.
