Fawzi Haimor
Assistant Conductor of the ASO | Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra


Fawzi Haimor was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra in 2010. Mr. Haimor is also the first music director of the newly formed Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra, leading its inaugural season in 2010-2011. The 27 year old conductor was raised in the Middle East and California. He began playing the violin at the age of 6 and had his first conducting opportunity at the age of 16. In 2005 Mr. Haimor began his studies at the University of California-Davis and was also the founder and first music director of the Davis Summer Symphony.

In 2007 Mr. Haimor was accepted into the conducting program at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where he began his studies under David Effron, Arthur Fagen and Thomas Baldner. During his residency at Indiana University, Mr. Haimor, a strong advocate of new music, premiered over 20 works by faculty and student composers. In addition he was appointed the Assistant Conductor for the IU Opera and Theater Department. Mr. Haimor has served as an assistant for many conductors including Robert Spano, Uri Segal, David Effron, Arthur Fagen and Cliff Colnot.

Mr. Haimor has performed with the Orquestra Nacional do Porto, the Amman Symphony and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. He earned bachelor's degrees in music and neurobiology, physiology, and behavior, and a master's degree in conducting from the University of California-Davis before completing his second master's degree in instrumental conducting from Indiana University.
