Dynamic Scotsman Rory Macdonald has established himself as one of the most talented young symphonic and operatic conductors working today. He'll join the ASO to lead cellist Johannes Moser in Elgar's heart-wrenching Cello Concerto. It was Elgar's last major work for orchestra, marked not only by his own illness but his grief at WWI's carnage. The cello plumbs the depths of human emotion and finds tenderness and optimism through the pain.

Sponsored by Doctors for the ASO, the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation, the University of Alabama Health System, the University of Alabama School of Medicine and VIVA Health. Also sponsored by Vulcan Materials Company Foundation.

Concert Comments begin at 7 p.m. in the Reynolds-Kirschbaum Theater, next to the Jemison Concert Hall.
Concert Comments are hosted by the concert's conductor, the ASO Education Director or other eminent guests and music critics before evening Masterworks performances.
