Ai-Yi Bao First Violin
Ai-Yi Bao was born in China and attended the Chinese Central Conservatory in Beijing, where she studied with Professor Yao-Ji Lin. Ai-Yi was the resident soloist and associate concertmaster for eight years with the Guangzhou Film Company Symphony Orchestra, which provided soundtrack music for movies and television productions in addition to regular concert seasons. In 1982, she won the first prize in the Canton Professional Musicians Concerto Competition.
After coming to the United States in 1985, Ai-Yi joined the Savannah Symphony Orchestra and its string quartet for the 1985-1986 season. Ai-Yi also performed recitals in the region and was featured as a soloist with the Red Mountain Chamber Orchestra and with the Magic City Orchestra. She served as Concertmaster of the Red Mountain Chamber Orchestra for five years.
Ai-Yi has been a member of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra since 1986. She has also been the violin instructor of the Alabama School of Fine Arts since 1993. Her students have won numerous awards in regional and national competitions, leading positions in youth orchestras, and scholarships to music schools.
